Spring is here and its time to lighten up your home with a fresh look and an open, airy feel.
For the budget minded this can be accomplished with a few minor changes in your home. You will get the most mileage by choosing a room that is heavily used, a social room or gathering space for immediate gratification and appreciation for the investment. Once this is determined consider these options:
Window Coverings: If you have heavy treatments consider removing them for the spring/summer months to allow more natural light and view into the room. Placing a light film on the windows will keep the heat at bay and the harmful UV’s from ruining your furnishings. Also consider switching out the color of your treatments by going with a lighter hue that still complements the furnishings in the room, panel treatments are great for the flexibility they offer.

Flooring: As for lighting up the flooring a picture is worth a thousand words:

Accessories: Pillows, Lamps, throws and artwork all play a part in changing the dynamics of a rooms look and feel. While staying within your color scheme choose accent pillows and throws that brighten the room, lamp shades that lighten and artwork that brings nature in.

Upholstery: An easy and inexpensive way to achieve a fresh new look on an older piece of furniture, choose a solid or patterned fabric that complements the existing pieces and you will be amazed at the difference.

Wall Color: The easiest way to achieve the most dramatic update for a space is to change the wall color. Do your homework and choose carefully. The new color must take into consideration the dominant furnishings and finishes in the room as well as any treatments, accessories and flooring that will remain.

If you’re having a hard time deciding which updates to choose I prefer to prioritize by what work is needed the most. What issues in your space have been nagging at you the longest? Start here and you’re on your way!
