Design Time ~ Plan the Work & Work the Plan

DSC_0062January ushers in thoughts of new beginnings, a fresh start potent with the possibility of realigning priorities and reshaping activities in order to achieve the most important, life enriching goals. It’s time to ponder and reconsider the course we’ve set and make the adjustments that have caused us to veer off-course, and when it comes to the design of our homes, January is design time.

Achieving a well designed home without a plan is like pursuing a career without obtaining the education and experience to support the process, it is the hardest way to go!

Begin from the ground up, paying attention to the foundational principles of good design, the important elements that influence great design for your particular season of life and the needs of your family. Having clarity in these areas increase the effectiveness of the outcomes and will enhance your overall lifestyle.

Consider your interior space, the layout, flow of traffic, furnishings (appropriate and inappropriate), relationship of function and beauty, color flow and accessories; then decide within each space the changes that need to take place to improve in these areas and the time needed to achieve it. Prioritization is key and will help determine a reasonable time frame for the year. Then work the plan, making adjustments along the way until you complete the process, the desired goal, the beautiful design of your home that is a reflection of your lifestyle and the family that lives within!
