Millennials are on the heels of Gen Xers, followed by Baby Boomers in creating outdoor living spaces. The younger generations are much more inclined to invest in major structural improvements, such as decks, outdoor kitchens, swimming pools and hot tubs, according to Houzz, and are much more enthusiastic about pursuing decorating projects.
Limited housing stock and higher interest rates are key drivers impacting affordability, especially the younger generation of homeowners. The larger the outdoor project, the more inclined homeowners are open to hiring professionals get the job done, especially if adding outdoor kitchens, plumbing, electrical to roofing is involved. Popular outdoor add-ons also include grills for outdoor kitchens, cooktops, pizza ovens, smokers or deep fryers topped off with a beverage refrigerator.
