A recent NKBA survey affirms that flooring ranks in the top four decision criteria for kitchen remodels right alongside countertops, cabinets and appliances.

Popular flooring trends for kitchen and bath include surfaces that offer low maintenance, durability, environmentally friendly and water-resistant qualities.


Popular flooring materials include engineered wood, tile and porcelain, laminate, hardwood (in matte and satin finishes) and marble. Color choice trends range from darker tones such as gray and dark browns to whites while popular texture trends are natural or distressed to complement the overall style of kitchen or bath.
Flooring layout is also trending toward bold scale as seen in wide plank widths, pattern and tiles appropriate for overall project scale.
