Life and designer chairs go together like house and home, its hard to imagine living without these necessary and multi-functional items that express themselves in style and function. What we know as the designer chair today would be centuries in the making, now found in every venue of life.

The chair made its debut in ancient Egypt as far back as 2600 B.C. when the earliest four-legged seat with a back was invented. Reserved for royalty and members of the priesthood, the first chairs were low to the ground and ornately carved. Eventually, chairs became an expected furniture item for the socially elite while the common man used benches, stools or chests to sit upon. Not until the 16th century did commoner’s enjoy using chairs in their home.

By the 1800’s most American households had enough chairs for every family member and the 1900’s ushered in what we know as designer chairs that ignited experimentation with different materials other than chairs made with wood.
Today, chairs are an indispensable style element. From casual to formal they often provide the finishing touch to room decor as well as provide clues to the homeowner’s sense of beauty and personality.
There are many popular designer chair styles today and yet one frame can be customized which then makes its unique to its owner. Options abound with a choice of finish, fabric, arm/side and dimension options with some manufacturers. Upholstered chairs with options abound as well.
